And They All Fall Down

A good bit of the time my posts are going a revolve around something that annoys me. Today it is tennis players. Now I am a tennis player. I don't play at a high level or for any sort of trophy, I just play for fun. Still I am a very competitive person and I hate to lose at anything.
I think professional tennis players are amazing athletes. Some of you may have watched Nadal's semifinal match the other day and some of you may not, but the man is an amazing athlete. The guy played a match that went on for about five and a half hours and played at the highest level the entire time. What I am annoyed about is that after five and half hours of grueling tennis Nadal won on a double fault. Hey I couldn't even lift my arm after over five hours of tennis, so I am not making light of his opponent double faulting, but after the guy double faulted Nadal fell to the ground in joy. Now I have fallen to the ground after tennis matches, but I had a cramp in my leg. Nadal didn't, he fell on purpose and that bothers me.
I mean, if you win on match point by hitting a running forehand after a long rally and you fall to the ground sure, but one the point in question Nadal didn't even do anything and he still fell to the ground. I am not a fan of this. I am not a fan of tennis players falling to the ground period after winning, but especially if they are supposed to win.
The absolutely worst at this celebration of all time is Roger Federer. The man could have won public courts in Charleston during the height of his career and he would have fallen to the ground in celebration. It just doesn't make any sense. First, if you are so good that you win in straight sets or just beat the pants off the other guys, why do you fall to the ground in celebration. I have to admit that I have a "dog in this hunt" because I am a big fan, a big fan, of the fist pump. The Michael Jordan fist pump is the best form of celebration that exists. I am sorry, there really is no argument. Jordan was so good that all it took was a fist pump for celebration because he knew he should win.
Last year at Wimbledon, Nadal finally beat Federer to take over the roll of best player in the world. It probably was the greatest tennis match of all time and when Nadal won he fell to the ground. You know what, fine. I am fine with that. Federer should have won and Nadal player the match of his life and got over the hump. If Verdesco had beaten Nadal and fallen to the ground then fine, but Nadal was supposed to win. And this was the semis, he didn't even win the whole thing. Now I know that was a hard match and I have the utmost respect for Nadal. I am a big Federer fan, but Nadal may frankly be the best in the world, so he needs to act like it is my point. I mean when WVU beats Marshall in football the fans and players don't storm the field because WVU was supposed to win and they act like it.
Favorites need to act like the were supposed to win. Study the Jordan fist pump and learn to how celebrate like you are the best in the world. I don't care who you are or what sport you play, if you are supposed to win and you win, then act like it. People will recognize you as the best at something when you act like you are, so these guys need to start acting like it and simply give it the ol' fist pump.

Could NBC be any dumber

I have taken to the blogging thing, so I thought I would go at it again.
I have a question for everyone, could NBC be any dumber for rejecting the PETA Super Bowl ad? In my opinion, they couldn't. I have talked about this for a couple of days now, since I saw the news, and with a few other people and it seems everyone agrees with me about NBC's stupidity.
In case you have been under a rock for a few days, here is some background. PETA created an ad for the Super Bowl that was extremely racy showing women using veggies in a very sexual manner. The purpose of the ad was to get people to become vegetarians. The ad informed the men watching that "Studies Show...Vegetarians have better sex" and that men should in turn "Go Veg." Pretty good ad if you ask me, but NBC didn't think it was appropriate.
On The PETA Files (the organizations blog) there is a list of shots that NBC requested be cut before they would consider airing the spot. Here you go: licking pumpkin, touching her breast with her hand while eating broccoli, pumpkin from behind between legs, rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin, screwing herself with broccoli, asparagus on her lap appearing as if it is ready to be inserted into vagina, licking eggplant, and rubbing asparagus on breast.
Holy cow. Now I have seen the ad and it is pretty racy, but lets be honest, does anyone, including NBC, not think that PETA did that on purpose. They knew full well when they made that, or at least their ad agency did, that it was going to be rejected and they would have a media field day. I don't watch the news that often, but at work CNN is on the TV in the room where I work on mute and I have seen the ad about 25 times in the last few days. There is one important part to my viewing that ad, PETA showed me that ad on CNN, and every other news network and all over the Internet FOR FREE. Let me repeat that, I have seen the ad a total of about 40 times at NO COST to PETA.
So congrats to PETA for outsmarting NBC and not paying $2 million to run an ad during the Super Bowl and getting the most coverage then any ad that airs during the Super Bowl.

I have a Mac, so now I am cool

I have thought a lot over the last couple of weeks since I bought my wife a MacBook for Christmas about how it has changed my life. I am part of the generation that was really the first to grow up on computers. We had a Commodore 64 when I was little and I loved playing Jump Man (one of the most underrated games of all time if I must say so myself). My dad used to bring home his portable work computer, if you consider something that takes three people to carry portable. My classes were filled with computer courses since I was in grade school. I state this so that you know that I have been around computers my whole life, so having a new computer isn't anything new to me.
I have not gone more than a day in my adult life without a computer. I am not a computer expert, I mean I can turn it on and off, but other than that I need an IT person. It is also important for me to point out that I have known about and read blogs for years. I highly recommend them as something to fill your days and as a great source of information and entertainment. So why is it now that I (and my wife, she falls in this category as well) have just decided to start a blog.
Is it because it is now easier to start a blog? No. Is it that I have more time on my hands now a days? No. Is it that I all of the sudden decided that people should hear my opinion on things? Not at all.
The answer is, I have now have a MacBook. My life changed on Christmas Day when my wife and I became MacBook owners. We all of the sudden become cool. I should take this opportunity to note that my wife has always been cool, so I make that statement basically for myself. What is it about having a MacBook that makes you an expert on social media. Mac owners know more about creating movies, editing pictures, blogging, music, anything that is "hip and now." Right now I am typing on a Dell computer, but I started this blog on a Mac. There is no real big difference, but I wonder if I would have ever started a blog if I had not gotten a Mac. Maybe, but probably not, because as a PC user I felt somewhat inferior to Mac users in terms, what I call, "web coolness." You have to admit, all of the cool kids have a Mac.
Let me digress a little bit and let you know my thought process on this. I took two course in Logic during my undergraduate career at West Virginia Wesleyan, so I know a little about logical statements (both truth statements and false statements) and this is how it works. A logical statement, as I recall, is a sentence which can be either true or false without ambiguity. It is known as the truth value. So using this thought process, I had the following logical statement concerning buying a MacBook: "All Mac owners are cool. Sutton owns a Mac. Therefore, Sutton is cool." Now some of you may have trouble with my logic and if you do, then this probably isn't the right blog for you. No matter, that was my thought process in buying a Mac (that and my wife wanted one and as I love her dearly and want her to be happy, she gets what she wants). I am a logical thinker. It is simply how my brain works. I don't consider it the right or wrong way to think. Wait a minute, this is my blog so why be so nice. I do consider it the right way to think, or at the least the best way to think (that should at least make people feel a little better). Anyway, again, I digress. I felt a need to become cool, so I had to figure out how to accomplish that. Everyone was doing myspace, twitter, or facebook and I just wasn't apart of that new way of life, so I needed something. I knew all Mac owners were cool, so bingo, that was it. I am not saying that if you don't own a Mac that you aren't cool. There are other ways to be cool, and please feel free to share them with me if you know a few. I am simply saying that this was the easiest way for me to become a "cool kid."
If you have a Mac then you know what I am talking about. If you don't own a Mac, then you have no idea, I didn't, but I do now.

Getting Started

Okay, here is the thing. My wife started a blog a few weeks ago (Splendid.Bites) and I sat down last night and created a post for her blog. I had a lot of fun and it gave me something to do. The problem is that she writes better than me and knows more about food (it is a food blog), so I feel like I need to start my own thing. Now don't panic, I will still do posts on her blog that relate to food, but I need to talk more about random stuff.
A word of warning, you won't get any truly helpful advise or wisdom from this blog. I simply want to write down things that I am thinking about and apparently it isn't as hard as I thought, so here we go. I have a lot of random thoughts and observations that I feel need shared. Like the late, great George Carlin said "I have a lot of great ideas, the problem is most of them suck." Most of my day to day thoughts fall into this category, but hey you never know, one may have relevance one day.
On this blog, you we will cover a variety of topics, from random thoughts to my dog, to fantasy sports, to politics, to simple observations about why there is a house painted bright green in the middle of twenty brick homes. Honestly, you probably won't care about anything I have to say (hence the name of the blog), but it is a way for me to get some thoughts out there and make spark some conversations or thoughts in your mind.
I will try to keep this updated regularly. Some days I may post five times and some weeks I may not post at all. I welcome comments on all my blogs. I hope you enjoy the posts and if there is anything you would like me to comment on directly, simply let me know. As those of you who know me know, I am never at a loss for an opinion.
